  Rajasthan Invasion history

  Muslim Invasions

In the 8th century Arab invaders conquered a portion of Sindh.

In 1001 AD Mohammed of Ghazni began sporadic raids into India through the northern passes. He overran Punjab and his main purpose was loot. He sacked the fabulous temples of Somnath in Gujarat, Mathura, Varanasi and laid waste cities on the way. No real resistance was offered,

In 1191 Mohammed Ghori attacked Delhi. He was repulsed by Prithviraj Chauhan but returned in 1192. He defeated the Chauhan and took Ajmer. His general, Qutbuddin Aibak took Delhi in 1193. This was the beginning of Muslim rule in north India in any established sense.
